Group exhibition
Museum of Ethnology, Lisbon
11.04 - 13.07.2025
This is a kaleidoscopic exhibition that explores how artists portray singular and collective experiences of cultural identity, from multiple forms of representation and from various geographical, generational and conceptual contexts, close or more distant. Oppression and liberation from colonial thinking, the condition of the descendants of post-colonial immigration, decolonial cultural politics, the historical processes of wars and diasporas, as well as the phenomena of migration and the forms of miscegenation experienced by the populations of different African and European countries are all topics covered here.
Above all, PÓS-MUSEU wants to open doors and arouse new interests and readings, proposing to work on some of these themes, respecting different trajectories and seeking to establish thematic points of coincidence produced in Portugal or in other latitudes and geographies, in an exhibition that takes place in the year commemorating the 50th anniversary of the independence of the four former Portuguese colonies - Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe - which proclaimed their independence one year after the 25th of April.
