MACE Elvas, Elvas
28.06 - 25.08.2024
The first edition of the Festival of Networked Art in the Alentejo Region (FARRA) brings together 30 exhibitions: from 14 collections (including CACE - State Collection of Contemporary Art), 13 non-profit organisations, two museums and one residency exhibition. FARRA is promoted by MACE - Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Elvas, in an RPAC project in partnership with Appleton - Associação Cultural, Centro de Arte Oliva and Córtex Frontal - Residências e Oficinas, and runs from 28 June to 25 August in Elvas.
With the aim of promoting various forms of artistic creation and imagining the exhibition of contemporary art, FARRA seeks to give public visibility to national and international private collections developed in Portugal. On the other hand, it encourages new creations, co-producing and exhibiting new artistic productions by non-profit organisations and invited artists.
About FARRA, Ana Cristina Cachola, the event's artistic director, reveals that "the conditions for the possibility of a farra (a party, a conviviality that expands and enlivens) are very similar to the moments of contemporary art: a conversation that stretches out, four or five new friends, another drink, and two more exhibitions next door. It is from this apparent phenomenological futility that historical exhibitions are born, books already written, others yet to be written, concerts improvised, others scheduled... The party whose title we have chosen to vernacularise - FARRA - wants to be just that - a place of birth, a place of resistance."
